Nellie Alice Downing Jones

Nellie Alice Downing Jones, 84, wife of Russell Ewell Jones for 66 years, died Wednesday August 30, 2023, at her home in Millersburg, KY.

She was born in Paris, KY to the late Doc and Nina Barr Downing.  Nellie was a retired employee at the Bluegrass Army Depot and a former Wal-Mart greeter.  She and Russell also founded the Mountain Moving Ministries Church and helped to re-establish the Shawhan Baptist Church. 

She is survived by her husband, Russell Ewell Jones; two children, Dawn (Sherman Mitchell) Jones and Nina Eldridge; three grandchildren, Chad (Alicia Hollar) Jones, Michael Eldridge, Jared (Chelsea Hunter) Eldridge and the Mitchell children that called her granny; three great grandchildren, Jasmine Jones, Sawyer Jones and Hanna Jones; one brother, Dougie Downing; special thanks to Mary Campbell and Sabrina Campbell and several extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by, one daughter, Sharon Beth Jones; one sister, Mareese Smits; one brother, Jackie Downing; one nephew, John Yazell and one niece, Neely Shane Taylor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Monday September 4, 2023, at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY by Bro. Steve Baker.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Bluegrass Care Navigators.
