David O’dell Gilbert

David O’dell Gilbert, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, in Georgetown, Kentucky, at the age of 60. Born on January 23, 1964, in Denver, Colorado, David’s adventurous spirit and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew him.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Kristy Lynn Gilbert, who was his partner in every aspect of life. He was a beacon of strength and love for his family, including his mother, Yvonne; his son, David O’dell Gilbert II; his daughter, Kristen Shauntel Gilbert; and his beloved grandchildren, Kiara, Jordan, Lexus, Chassidy, Levi, and Adalynn. Also two stepsons, Brandon Edwards and Kody Edwards. David’s legacy of kindness and warmth is also carried on by his sister and brother-in-law, Tisha (Carl) Dietz, his brother, Timothy Gilbert, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry O’dell Gilbert, and his sister, Becky Webster.
David’s professional life was marked by his tenure as a dedicated subcontractor with Duke Energy, where his work ethic and camaraderie were well respected.
An avid outdoorsman, David found solace and joy in the beauty of nature. He spent countless hours hunting, fishing, and camping, sharing his love for the great outdoors with his family and friends. His enthusiasm for adventure was matched only by his loyalty as a fan of the University of Kentucky, where he cheered on his favorite teams with fervor.
Those who knew David would describe him as adventurous, loving, and friendly—a man who welcomed each day with open arms and a ready smile. His presence was a source of comfort and happiness to those around him, and his absence will be deeply felt by many.
In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children… to leave the world a bit better… to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” David lived by these words, striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those he encountered. His success in this endeavor is evident in the love and memories he leaves behind.
