David Joseph “Papa Joe” Shriver
David Joseph “Papa Joe” Shriver, age 91, widower of Mary Ann Bernard Shriver, departed this life on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Joe was born on September 30, 1933, in Utica, Missouri, the son of the late William David and Genevieve Dietrich Shriver, was a 1951 graduate of Paris High School, and was recently inducted in the Paris Greyhound Hall of Fame, a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War, was owner and operator of Shriver’s Drycleaners, and a member of the Catholic Church of the Annunciation. He was a former member and past president of the Paris Kiwanis Club, a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus, former president and treasurer of Holy Names Society, led Sunday morning scripture sharing for several years, as well as a former member of the Paris-Bourbon County Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Willy Shriver, brother, Larry Shriver, and a sister, Barbara Ann Calk.
Survivors include nine daughters, Jo Ann (Randy) Perkins, MaryAnn (Mike) Withrow, Carol (Ron) Hutt, Ruth (Patrick) Hartman, Libby (Louie) Emmons, Terri (Tim) Rankin, Donna Shriver, Helen (Adam) Falor, Katie Shriver; and one son, Joe A. (Rhonda) Shriver. Also surviving are twenty-three grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, a sister, Billie Nunan, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation with Rev. Jeffrey Estacio officiating with private inurnment to follow in the Mount Olivet cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with Rosary at 10:30 a.m.
