Susan Carol Argo Kendall
Susan Carol Argo Kendall, a selfless, loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at her home on March 2, 2025, after a long illness at the age of 76. Susan was born on October 17, 1948, to her beloved parents, the late George Haviland and Edna Ruth Franklin Argo. She grew up on Old Lair Road and continued to live there the rest of her life with her husband Kenny, whom she was married to for 55 years. Kenny’s unwavering love and dedicated care for Susan during her final months was something to be admired.
Susan’s childhood with her siblings was full of love, adventure and sometimes mischief – which she always blamed on her brothers, Johnny and Haviland, but we are sure she was responsible for some. Old Lair Road stayed home to most of her siblings and continues to do so today. This provided her and the entire family a special opportunity to always be close to each other, creating lasting memories of working in the tobacco fields and fishing with her father, spending time with her mother and of course fixing her hair, and endless amounts of love that her amazing parents instilled in her and her siblings that has been passed down through many generations to this day.
Susan attended Buena Vista Grade School and was a proud graduate of Harrison County High School, class of 1966. One of her great joys in life was always keeping in touch with her classmates and organizing class reunions. She truly loved taking on that role and did it well. After high school, she became a beautician and worked for Kathryn’s Cut-n-Curl until 1974. Later in life she worked as a deputy Jailer for 14 years. She was also a member of Elmarch United Methodist Church.
Her proudest accomplishments were her children whom she loved fiercely. She instilled in both of her children her love of “oldies” music – where there wasn’t a day when the kitchen radio wasn’t playing her favorite songs, being outside working in the garden and growing flowers, as well as the skill of making her famous sweet tea. One of the most important life lessons she taught her children was to be friends with everyone, regardless of their differences. She was prevalent in her children’s schools – always volunteering as the “gray lady,” classroom mother and helping in the office. Susan was a wonderful mother, but being a grandmother was also a role where she was irreplaceable. She was a constant in her grandkids’ lives from the moment they entered the world. Affectionately known as Granny, she was proud to have taught all of her grandkids to swim in her pool. Her house was the place to be in the summer and continues to be to this day. The level of love and support that she provided was unmatched and will leave a void and be missed immensely.
Although we are heartbroken, we are thankful she is no longer suffering and confident that in Heaven there is a Siesta Key Beach with a radio playing Elvis and she has already found it.
Besides her parents, Susan is preceded in death by her beloved big brother John Martin Argo, sisters-in-law Nancy Argo and Tammy Abell.
