Shirley Ann Spencer King
Shirley Ann Spencer King, age 85, widow of the late John S. King, Sr., passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, in Lexington, KY, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on July 20, 1940, in Sharpsburg, KY, to the late Menifee and Florence Triplett Spencer, Shirley (known lovingly as “Bird”) lived a life defined by kindness, resilience, and devotion to family and friends. She was known for her warm smile, good food and her amazing peanut butter roll. Whether through a shared meal, a listening ear, or a salty margarita, she touched countless lives. She was also a very loyal UK Basketball Fan.
Shirley took great pride in her family and found her greatest joy in time spent together. She loved tending her flowers, quilting and crafting, winning at cards or cooking a new recipe and will be remembered for her undying faith that led her family to salvation. Early in life, she was a hairdresser by trade and clients would drive an hour for her services.
She is survived by her children: Melanie Musick (Dave) of Cape Coral, FL; Melissa McFarland (Tom) of Richmond; John “Scotty” King Jr (Lisa) of Lexington along with five grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Lockaby, Emily (Keena) Cheatham, David (Brittany) Musick, Whitley (Danielle) Fisher and Anna (Jack) Muller and; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Peggy (Wayne) Buckler and several nieces, nephews and cousins, who will forever cherish her memory.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Wasson and Bonnie Hughes.
Funeral services were conducted at 12:00 PM Friday February 6, 2026, by Rev. Jan Ehrmantraut and Rev. Bob Mallory at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home Chapel, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY. Burial followed in the Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, KY.
Visitation was from 10:00 AM Friday February 6, 2026, until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Dave Musick, Tom McFarland, David Musick, Matt Lockaby, Keena Cheatham and Jack Muller.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Antioch Christian Church to honor of her life and legacy.
