Donald Edward Purcell

Donald Edward Purcell, 80, widower of the late Carolyn Ann Riggs Purcell, died Monday September 7, 2020 at his home.
A native of Millersburg, KY, he was the son of the late William and Ruth Traylor Purcell.  He was retired from Claiborne Farms breeding shed after forty years of service.  He took pride in his work and enjoyed working with many famous race horses, including Secretariat, Riva Ridge and Round Table.   He was an avid UK Basketball fan, enjoyed bowling and western movies.  His favorite actor was John Wayne and had the opportunity of getting his picture taken with him while at Claiborne Farms.
He is survived by two children, Donna Sue Furr and Becky Purcell; one step daughter, Melissa (John) Turner; four grandchildren, Kristen Agee, Laura (Blake) Mitchell, Katy Purcell and Jacqueline Knoblett; one step grandson, Royce Turner; three great grandchildren , Braxton Conkright, Cali Clay Jones and Emalyn Mitchell; one brother, Billy (Kaye) Purcell; two sisters, Wanda Galbreath and Doris English and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Wayne Purcell; grandson, Joshua Purcell: his longtime girlfriend, Barbara Downing; one brother, Bobby Purcell and one sister, Helen Hartley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday September 11, 2020 at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY by Jonathan Graves.  Burial will follow in the Paris Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Thursday September 10, 2020 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bill Ramey, Robert Ramey, Donnie Myers, Jeff  Purcell, Bradley Purcell, Wesley Purcell, Royce Turner and John Turner.
Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Mitchell, Laura Mitchell, Kristen Agee, Katy Purcell, Jacqueline Knoblett, Billy Purcell, Gary Nixon and Sue Nixon.
The funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY.
