Lewis Benjamin “Benny” Fugate, Jr.
Lewis Benjamin “Benny” Fugate, Jr., 79, departed this life on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at Pomerado Hospital in San Diego, CA.
Benny was born on October 14, 1941 in Paris, Kentucky, the son of Lewis Benjamin Fugate and Elizabeth Horn Fugate. He was a proud member of the 1959 graduating class of Paris High School. In 1963 he graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Business Administration and commissioned into the US Army.
He was trained as a Huey helicopter pilot and served in Vietnam from 1964 to 1966.
During his service, he was awarded with the Bronze Star and received a Purple Heart.
After his return from Vietnam, he served several more years in the US Army Reserves then spent 20 years in insurance sales and management.
A job promotion transferred him and his family to San Diego, CA where he later owned and operated a successful awards and engraving business.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lahonda Jean Fugate, sister JoAnn Caywood and niece LeeAnn Caywood. He is survived by his son Lewis Benjamin Fugate, III, daughter Heather Sobotka, grandson Christian Sobotka and niece Rebecca Caywood Beheler.
A dual memorial service for Ben and Lahonda Fugate will be held at the Paris Cemetery on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 11 a.m.
