William Eugene Thomas
William Eugene Thomas, age 87, widower of Patricia Agnes Toohey Thomas, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 18, 1934, in Bourbon County, son of the late George W. and Ruby Combs Thomas. Eugene was a graduate of Bourbon County High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Husbandry and Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kentucky where he also was a member of the Livestock Judging Team. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a retired Fischer’s Meat broker and lifelong farmer. Eugene served on the Bourbon County Planning and Zoning Board for 28 years, was a member of American Legion Post 30; member of Future Farmers of America, and was an avid outdoorsman, belonging to numerous game organizations.
Eugene is survived by a son, William “Gene” Thomas II; a daughter, Alicia Thomas; four grandchildren, Peyton Ashley (Brandon) Couch, MacKenzie Elizabeth Hall, Kelsie Anne Hall, Isabella Maria Hall; sister, Judith Thomas MacDuffee; nephew, David (Andrea) MacDuffee; niece, Julia (Nisim) Falach; great nieces and great nephews, Jacob and Gloria Falach, Trevor, Clay and Emily MacDuffee; and adopted daughter, Melinda Brislin.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 25, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 12 noon, Tuesday, October 26, at the North Middletown Christian Church with Rev. Stephanie Moon officiating.
Casket bearers will be Joe Fritsch, Derek Cockrell, Jeff Morrison, Richard Eads, Bill Thompson, and Ed Thompson. Honorary bearers will be David MacDuffee, Brandon Crouch, Forest Jackson, Rick Mingua, Dr. Michael Wall, Calvin Collins, Eddie Richard, and Jimmy Mason.
Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Bluegrass Hospice Care or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. www.hintonturner.com
