Barry Melvin Robinson
Barry Melvin Robinson, 75, of Bourbon County, Kentucky, died on Friday, October 28, 2022 at his home.
He was born in Lexington, Kentucky on January 10, 1947 to the late Barbara Melvin Robinson and the late Hermon Clayton Robinson, Jr. Barry married Linda F. Sharp on Saturday, December 19, 1970. They had two children, Eva Kristine Horine (Eric), and Barry Melvin Robinson, Jr., both of Bourbon County.
A 1965 graduate of Bryan Station High School, Barry enrolled in Eastern Kentucky University intending to one day teach Industrial Arts. During the Vietnam War in 1968, Barry volunteered and proudly served God and country with the U.S. Navy in the U.S. Naval Construction Force as a Seabee in both Vietnam and Guam. Upon his honorable discharge in 1974, Barry returned to civilian work stateside and spent many years as a licensed professional land surveyor. After retirement, Barry began a new journey as a school bus driver for the Bourbon County Preschool. “Mr. Bear” will be missed by all those he carried on Bus #23.
Throughout his lifetime, Barry was a faithful church member. For over 25 years he and his wife served the Lord at Cornerstone Baptist Church where Barry was Chairman of the Deacons, a Sunday School teacher, and a steadfast friend and mentor. Barry sang and played Bluegrass and Gospel music, and was an accomplished carpenter and leatherworker. He deeply loved his family and crossed the U.S. on multiple motorcycle trips with his brothers, wife, and son – aka, The Robinson Riders.
Strong and kind in life, claiming eternal victory through Christ Jesus in death, Barry M. Robinson will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda; a daughter, Eva Kristine Horine (Eric); a son, Barry Melvin Robinson, Jr.; four grandchildren, Hanson Cox of Georgetown, Anna Cox of Lexington, Emily Cox of Miami, FL, and Sadie Horine of Bourbon County; two brothers Thomas Grant Robinson of Lancaster, and Daniel S. Robinson of Fripp Island, SC; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends he knew, and friends he just hadn’t met yet. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Hermon Clayton “Rob” Robinson, III and William Charles “Will” Robinson.
Visitation was conducted on Wednesday, November 2, from 4-7PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church (4451 Winchester Road, Lexington, KY). Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, November 3, at 11 AM at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Reverend Chip Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full military honors. Pall bearers will include Barry Melvin Robinson, Jr., Hanson Cox, Bobby Robinson, Grant Robinson, Danny Robinson, and David Lemons. Honorary pallbearers will include Claude Shaw, Frank Reed, and Winston Deweese.
