Virginia (Jenny) Lee Young Gorrell
Virginia (Jenny) Lee Young Gorrell, mother of Tracy and Paul Sipes and Warren and Jim Gorrell passed away on September 14, 2023, from dementia. She was 81. Born on December 22, 1941, in Millwood, KY to Emily and Alvia Orlando (Spud) Young, Jenny was the third youngest of seven children. She lived in Millwood and Caneyville before becoming a long-time resident of Paris and Lexington, KY. Her husband, John Gorrell, predeceased her in 2019. She is survived by her younger sister, Lissy.
Jenny loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, friends and church family. She was a devoted and talented homemaker, cook and gardener. She was “Grammy” and loved being in her kitchen preparing “a feast” for her family or tending her vegetable garden and flower beds. Her grandchildren remember her as a fun, loving grandmother who was always willing to read and play with them and make their favorite foods. She was an active member of Hutchison United Methodist Church, Paris, KY
Jenny is survived by her four sons, Tracy Sipes (Karen), Paul Sipes (Chrissie), Warren Gorrell (Cathy), and Jim Gorrell (Lou); by her ten grandchildren, Tyler (Morgan), Shelby (Gavin), Garrett (Sarah), Ryan (Raelyn), Camryn, Sarah (Akshay), Courtney (Troy), Michael (Lauren), Elizabeth and Catherine (Colin); and by her eight great grandchildren, Jaycee, Carson, Nathaniel, Lillian, Tara, Karina, Hadley, and Griffin.
Jenny will be dearly missed by her family and friends. A funeral service will be on Monday, September 18 at 11 AM at Hutchison Methodist Church, 251 Hutchison Road, Paris, KY. The family will receive friends at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hutchison Methodist Church at 251 Hutchison Road, Paris, KY 40361. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memory Gardens, Paris, KY.
Pallbearers were Ryan Sipes, Garrett Sipes, Tyler Sipes, Carson Sipes, George Jacoby and Gavin Miller.
The family is grateful for the care Jenny received from the staff at Ashton Grove Senior Living, Georgetown, KY and Bluegrass Care Navigators.
The funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY.
