Larry Stephen Jones

Larry Stephen Jones, a man whose laughter and love infused life into every room, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024, in Ruddles Mills, KY, at the age of 82. Born on July 8, 1941, in Cynthiana, KY, Larry’s journey was marked by a profound dedication to his family, an unwavering passion for his interests, and a legacy of joy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Larry was the beloved patriarch of a large and loving family. He is survived by his four children, Donna Miller, Deborah Mitchell, Bridgette Shaw, and Danny Bill Reynolds. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren, Lee Frazier, Timothy “TC” Mitchell, Natasha Mitchell, Nikki (Brian) Burton, Nixon Workman, Evan (Laura) Jones, and Alex Jones; five great-grandchildren, Kaliyah, Abby, Able, Sarah, and Michael; and one great-great-grandchild, Robert Lee. Larry also leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Lisa Mullins Jones; his brother, Mike Jones; his half-sister, Cindy (Tom) Jett; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will all miss him dearly.

Preceding him in death were his cherished wife, Catherine “Cathy” Louise Wilson Jones; his mother, Edna Maybrier Wells; his father, Leland Stanford “Bus” Jones; his step-father, J.R. Wells; his son, Larry “Duke” Stephen Jones, II; his grandson, Michael Bailey; and his sisters, Annette Jones Johnson and Linda Wells Sherwood.

A graduate of Bourbon County High School in 1959, Larry’s work ethic and sense of responsibility were evident early on. He retired from a fulfilling career with Stamler Corporation, where he was known for his reliability and inventive spirit.

Larry’s life was a testament to the idea that joy can be found in a multitude of pursuits. An avid golfer, he relished both playing and watching the game. His musical talent shone through as he played bass in a band named The Show Masters, entertaining crowds at Stoner Creek, VanHoose’s, and numerous street dances. His love for boating at Cave Run Lake with friends and family created a trove of cherished memories. Alongside his wife, he shared a passion for bowling, participating in many leagues. As a Licensed HAM Radio operator, Larry connected with people across the globe, sharing stories and forging friendships.

Those who knew Larry would describe him as funny, loving, and creative—a man who could find humor in the mundane and art in the everyday. His creative soul was not just evident in his hobbies but also in the way he approached life’s challenges, always finding unique solutions and spreading laughter along the way.

As we remember Larry, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children… to leave the world a bit better… to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Larry truly embodied this sentiment, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched.

In his passing, we mourn the loss of a man who was the cornerstone of our family, the life of the party, and a friend to all. Yet, we also celebrate a life exceptionally well-lived—a life brimming with love, laughter, and the melodies of a bass guitar that will echo in our memories forever.

Larry Stephen Jones’s story does not end here, for his spirit lives on in each kind gesture, shared joke, and loving embrace he inspired. His was a life that exemplified the joy of fully embracing every moment, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
