MGYSGT John Mattox Jr., Vietnam veteran, 82, of Millington, TN passed away March 24, 2025 surrounded by his family. John served 30 years in the United States Marine Corps serving both God and country. He was a devoted father and grandfather, loving husband, and great friend to many. John enjoyed playing golf, watching Kentucky Wildcats basketball and spending time with family and friends.
John’s legacy of service, compassion, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Carl Mattox (Ethel Prows Mattox) and Alma Pauline Clinger; and three half-sisters, Elizabeth Berry, Patricia Fox, and Betty Hilton. He is survived by his wife, Louella C. Mattox; son, Carl Richard Mattox (Amy) of Munford, TN; daughters, Sandra Turner (Mark) of Atoka, TN, Angela Daughtry of Millington, TN and Rebecca Carnell (Don) of Horn Lake, MS; sister, Alma Mattox of Paris, KY; nine grandchildren, Amber Nicole Brooks (Jesse), Rikki Blair Francois (Evenor), Karleigh Ann Gillespie (Tyler), John Carl Mattox III, Ashlee Brooke Blakney, Levi Daughtry, Kevin Carnell (Kari), Karen Carnell and Kenny Carnell; eight great-grandchildren; and a half-sister, Paulette Henderson.
The family received friends Friday (March 28) from 5pm until 8pm and Saturday (March 29) from 10am until the service at 11am all at The Apostolic Church in Millington, TN. Interment followed in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Drummonds, TN.
