Charles Thomas “Tom” Moore

Charles Thomas “Tom” Moore was born in Winchester, Kentucky, to the late James Bradwell Moore and Lillian Virginia Allen. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 4, 2025, at the Signature HealthCARE of Monroe County Rehab & Wellness Center. His final years were marked by courage as he faced a three‑year struggle with dementia and a brief illness with pneumonia.

A proud graduate of the University of Kentucky, Tom earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting before beginning a long and fulfilling career at his alma mater. He spent decades serving the UK College of Engineering as an accountant, where his steady presence, sharp mind, and deep commitment to the university community left a lasting impact on colleagues and students alike.

Tom was a loyal friend and a man of deep passions, especially for history and preservation. He cherished his circa‑1809 stone home in Millersburg, Kentucky, and found joy in the places and institutions that celebrated the region’s heritage—Keeneland, the Hopewell Museum in Paris, and the Bluegrass Trust for Historic Preservation. As a docent at Hopemont and an advocate for the restoration of the Pope Villa, he played a meaningful role in safeguarding Kentucky’s architectural legacy.

He loved to travel and looked forward each year to a February retreat in Vieques, Puerto Rico, shared with his chosen family. Those trips were among his happiest traditions.

Tom also appreciated life’s simple pleasures, especially a well‑made vodka cocktail or a glass of red wine with dinner. He was equally devoted to the companionship of his dogs, who brought him comfort, humor, and unwavering affection. And few things delighted him more than gathering with friends and his chosen family for spirited, often fiercely competitive games of dominoes—full of laughter, teasing, and the kind of camaraderie that defined his closest relationships. Friends and loved ones will no doubt raise a glass in his honor, remembering his warmth, his humor, and the steadfast loyalty he offered to both people and the animals he loved.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, James “Albert” Moore and Vernon M. Moore. Honoring his wishes, his body was donated to science, with cremation to follow.
