Jeffrey Wayne Shout, a beloved family man, dedicated horseman, and devout Christian, peacefully passed away in Lexington, KY, on the 29th of January 2026, at the age of 76. Born on September 1, 1949, in Whitesburg, KY, Jeff grew into a kind-hearted and gentle soul who left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Those who had the privilege to share in Jeff’s life will fondly remember his deep love for his wife, Sue Poynter Shout, and his unbreakable bond with his daughter, Jessica (Twanda Trapp) Shout. Jeff’s spirit will live on not only through his cherished family but also through the joy brought into their lives by his dog, Gigi and two granddogs, Penny and Camille.
Jeff’s expansive family circle included his treasured brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Darrell (Debbie) Poynter, Penny (Woody) Fryman, Dixie (Gilbert) Fite, and Lillian Poynter. He shared a special connection with his cousins Gerlad, Sam, and Marcia Burklow, who, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends, made for a rich and full life.
A retired horseman from the acclaimed Stone Farm, Jeff was not only respected for his work ethic but for the passion he brought to everything he did within his profession. His faith played a pivotal role throughout his life as a member of the Paris Christian Chapel, where he served and worshipped within the Christian community.
An avid fan who never wavered in his support for UK Basketball, Jeff enjoyed the thrill of the game and the community it brought together. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enthusiasm for fishing and golfing, especially when shared with his daughter on their cherished weekend outings.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ray Goodman and Eunice Blair Shout; his loving daughter Autumn Nicole Shout; his brother, Thomas Ray Shout; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Poynter, Jeffrey leaves behind a legacy of kindness and a tranquil strength that will continue to guide those he loved.
As we commemorate the life of Jeffrey Wayne Shout, we remember a man who embodied the warmth and light of true kindness, who approached each day with a gentle heart and left a gentle footprint on the Earth. His story will be told with love and his memory cherished with each horse’s gallop, each game’s cheer, each catch’s triumph, and every shared family laughter. Jeff’s life was a testament to the beauty of a serene and loving spirit, one that will be deeply missed and eternally revered.
Services were conducted at 7:00PM Wednesday February 4, 2026, by Rev. Don Jolly and Rev. Tim Jolly at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home Chapel, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY. Visitation was from 5:00 PM Wednesday February 4, 2026, until the hour of service at the funeral home.
