Peggie Joyce Szmagalski
Peggie Joyce Szmagalski, 84, of Conway, South Carolina, formerly of Lake Gaston, North Carolina, passed away on February 17, 2026, at Tideland Waccamaw Community Hospital.
Born on March 5, 1941, in Paris, Kentucky, Peggie was the beloved daughter of William and Louise Galbreath. She lived a full and vibrant life marked by creativity, warmth, and deep devotion to her family.
Peggie was a woman of many talents and passions. She was a clogger and square dancer who rarely missed a chance to enjoy music and fellowship. She found joy in painting, sewing, and gardening, expressing her creativity in countless beautiful ways. Some of her happiest moments were spent watching sunsets on the pontoon, enjoying southern comfort on the rocks, and gathering with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Her love for family was the heart of her life.
Peggie shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Andrew Szmagalski. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her sister, Sue Galbreath; her children, Candace Lacko, Andrea Szmagalski, and Andy Szmagalski; her grandchildren, Donald Blackwell, Kayla Rydel, Kimberly Lacko, and Tessa Stetter; and her great-grandchild, Briar Rydel. Each of them carries forward her legacy of love, strength, and kindness.
A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
Peggie will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her creative hands, her welcoming heart, and the deep love she gave so freely to those around her. Her memory will live on in every sunset reflected on the water and in every family gathering filled with laughter.
