Steve Van Putnam, who was born on June 8, 1964, in Paterson, New Jersey, and passed away on April 1, 2026, in Lexington, Kentucky, will be remembered with love by all who knew him.He lived his life with a gentle spirit and a kind heart, and those qualities were evident in the way he treated family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers alike. Steve had a steady presence and a quiet strength that brought comfort to the people around him.
Steve was a father, brother, and family member whose love for his family was clear in the many relationships he nurtured throughout his life. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole McKnight, and his son, Dillon Putnam. He also leaves behind the mother of his children, Donnella Putnam, who remained a part of his family circle. He is further survived by his brother, Russell Putnam, his sister, Darlene Putnam, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry his memory forward with affection and respect.
In his working life, Steve served as a maintenance man at Bradford Place Apartments, where he was known for his reliability, his practical skills, and his willingness to help others. He was of the Baptist faith and took pride in doing his work well and in being someone people could depend on. His efforts made a difference in the daily lives of many, and his contributions were appreciated by those who worked alongside him and those he served.
Steve also valued friendship and companionship, and he shared a special bond with Bill and Pat Wilson, who were dear friends to him. The friendships he formed throughout his life reflected the kindness and loyalty that defined him. Steve’s memory will remain a source of comfort to his family and friends. Though he is no longer here, the impact of his life endures in the hearts of those who loved him.
