Wayne Shields 

Melvin Wayne Shields, 77, husband of the late Margaret Hardwrick Shields, passed away peacefully Friday, April 10, 2026 at his home in Carlisle.

Born October 6, 1948 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late Melvin & Nancy Morris Shields, he was a member of Faith Pointe Church in Lexington. Wayne served in the U.S. Army for 4 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and loved driving the school bus for 30 years.

Surviving are his 2 daughters, Tara Shields and Thereasa Shields; a son, Travis Shields (Samantha French); 2 sisters, Judy Fuller and Vickie Perez; 8 grandchildren; Ryan Stoker, Brandon (Emerson) Stoker, Tanner (Autumn) Sapp, Westlee Sapp, Skyler & Tori Shields, and Mya & Rori Mitchell; and 6 great-grandchildren: Dawson Myers, Harlynn, Cohen & Wren Stoker, Isabella Stoker and Taelynn Sapp, along with a large extended family.

Also preceding him in death were 4 sisters: Linda Cornett, Gayle Sparks, Jo Ellen Hobbs & Lisa May; 4 brothers: Eugene, Terry, Milton & Stanley Shields; and a son-in-law, David Stanhope.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 16th at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Pastor Terry Lewis. Burial with military honors will follow in Carlisle Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. Thursday until the time of service.
