hyllis Jeanne Helphinstine Wedding, 93, wife of James Lee Wedding, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026 at her home in Nicholas County.
Born August 13, 1932 in Ewing to the late Thomas Allen and Josie Pickett Umstattd Helphinstine, she worked for many years as a clerk for the U.S. Government in several areas, including Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the Army Depot at Avon and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). She was a longtime member of the Carlisle Christian Church. Phyllis was an avid reader, having once earned the title Reader of the Year at the Nicholas County Public Library. She enjoyed activities at the Nicholas County Senior Citizens’ Center, watching westerns and crocheting, and dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Additional survivors include three children: John Doyle (Cathy Estes), Billy (Lisa) Doyle and Rhonda (Tim) Chisholm; a brother, Gordon (Sharon) Helphinstine; five grandchildren: Laura (Dustin) Ward, Enoch Doyle, Rachel Doyle (Josh Dyer), Mason Doyle (Nick Clay) and Veronica (Jacob) Wise; and four great-grandchildren: Devin Jones, Atlas Ward, and Andi and Abel Dyer.
Also preceding her in death were five brothers: T.A., Roger, Cecil, John Mason and Raymond Helphinstine; a sister, Mary Thomas Ray; and a grandson, J.C. Doyle.
Services were 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 21st at Carlisle Christian Church by Rev. Steve Smith, burial followed in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Visitation was after 5:00 P.M. Wednesday at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Carlisle Christian Church and the Nicholas County Public Library.
