John Reeves Anderson
John Reeves Anderson, 96, husband of the late Jorita Hollar Anderson, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2026 at The Willows at Hamburg.
Born August 17, 1929 in Nicholas County to the late J.E. & Etta Kearns Anderson, he was a 1947 graduate of Headquarters High School and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. John retired from the U.S. Postal Service, serving as Postmaster in Carlisle from 1968 until 1984, was a member of the National Association of Postmasters since 1968 and a member of the U.S. Selective Service. He was a member of the Carlisle Christian Church for 85 years, a member of the F.B.I. Sunday School class and Elder Emeritus, having served on the Church Board for 47 years, as Treasurer for 15 years, and was former Chairman of the Finance Committee. John felt very strongly about giving back to his community, he served on several area Boards including the Nicholas County Health Department, the Sycamore Housing Authority, and as Chairman of the Board of Johnson-Mathers Health Care for 16 years. He was a member of the Carlisle Rotary Club– where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow, the Wendell Ford Society and the Nicholas County Democratic Executive Committee. He was also a 70-year member of Blue Licks Lodge #495 F. & A.M. and an Honorable Kentucky Colonel. John loved God, family, and giving back to the community.
Surviving are a son, Michael John Anderson and his wife Mary Lou of Lexington; two grandsons: John Patrick Anderson of Midlothian, Virginia and Nicholas Scott (Ann Marie) Anderson of Tompkinsville; and six great grandchildren: Luke Michael Anderson, Levi James Anderson, Liam Gabriel Anderson, Logan Asher Anderson, Quaid Oliver Anderson, and Stevie Quinn Anderson. Also surviving are his sister, Jane Milam (late Bernie) of Paris; and two nephews, Jim Milam and John Milam.
Also preceding him in death was a nephew, Bob Milam.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 20th at Carlisle Christian Church by Rev. Steve Smith. Burial with military honors will follow in Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. Thursday until the time of service.
Memorial contributions are encouraged to the Carlisle Christian Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Willows at Hamburg, who provided compassionate care for John for the last five years of his life. We would also like to thank John’s wonderful minister for the past 39 years, Bro. Steve Smith, and his dear friends, Elva K. and Gayle Clark and Doug and Pat Reed for their faithful visits.
