John Cart Parr
John Cart Parr, Sr., age 86 of North Middletown, KY, passed away at home on Monday, August 17, 2026, with his family close by. He was born on January 28, 1940, on the family farm in Lodiburg, KY, son of the late William Eldon Parr and Delta Sue Cart Parr.
A graduate of the University of Kentucky and a former member of the Farmhouse Fraternity, John was employed as a Research Specialist in Entomology there for over 30 years. He devoted his life to agriculture, researching tobacco production, alfalfa weevil, alfalfa hay, and cattle. He dedicated his weekends and retirement to caring for the family farm, along with his siblings. John served as Mayor of North Middletown, Ky., as well as a volunteer firefighter. He had a great love for University of Kentucky basketball, and was a big Wildcats fan. He enjoyed Paul Harvey, Cawood Ledford and WHAS.
He is survived by his loving wife Patsy Chamberlain Parr; children, Sandy (Robby) VanHook of Cynthiana, KY and John (Shonia) Parr, Jr. of Paris KY; grandchildren, John (Michelle) Embry VanHook, Benjamin Parke VanHook, Caroline Elizabeth VanHook, and Emma Christine Parr; great-grandchildren, Norah Mae VanHook and Jacob Embry VanHook; sisters, Rosa (Jim) Allison of Lexington, KY and Barbara Wyles of Lexington, KY, and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings William Owen Parr, Otis Gordon Parr, and Mary Sue Parr.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. EDT at the Alexander Funeral Home in Irvington, KY.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. EDT, at Alexander Funeral Home.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to local FFA or 4-H organizations of your choice, or the American Cancer Society.
