Robert Wayne Smart

Robert Wayne Smart, 81, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, at the VA medical center in Lexington after a long illness.
Born July 8, 1945, in Nicholas County to the late George Burl and Ruby Lee Cooper Smart, he was a 1963 graduate of Carlisle High School, a Kentucky Army National Guard veteran and a member of Bluegrass United Church of Christ.
Bob was president of the First National Bank (later Whitaker Bank of Kentucky) in Lexington, Nicholasville, London and Manchester. He also worked for many years as a finance and insurance manager at Lexington Truck Sales and Conrad Chevrolet.
Surviving are four daughters: Christi (Ed) Twaddell, Angel (Jamie) Sloan, Sara Smart and Suzie Ratliff; sister, Linda (Jerry) Linville; sister-in-law, Rita Smart; brother-in-law, James Perdue; and six grandchildren: Colton Smart, Jesse Lorence, Laila Sloan, Quinn Townsend, and Maggie and Ellie Twaddell.
Also preceding him in death were a sister, Charlotte Purdue; two brothers, Richard and Oliver Smart; and his beloved dog, Charlie.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20 at Bluegrass United Church of Christ located at 500 Don Anna Drive, Lexington with visitation preceding.
Inurnment with military honors was at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21 in Carlisle Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Bob requested contributions be given to the Bluegrass United Church of Christ.
