Marion Sims

Marion Sims, Jr., 78, husband of Phyllis Hardwick Sims, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026 at Centerpoint Health-Paris.
A Nicholas County native born Nov. 6, 1947 to the late Marion, Sr. and Dorothy Hazel Ham Sims, he was a 1965 graduate of Nicholas County High School, a former member of the Kentucky Army National Guard, and a member of Carlisle United Methodist Church. Marion worked for many years at Bluegrass Industries and the Carlisle Post Office, as well as at his parents’ store, Sims Jewelry. He genuinely loved sports of all kinds, having played football, baseball and basketball in his youth, and later coaching baseball from Minor League on up through Little League and Babe Ruth. He also enjoyed attending horse races, playing golf, hunting and fishing with the kids. Marion was dedicated to Nicholas County athletics, especially baseball, and loved supporting the kids.
Additional survivors include a son, Dexter (Sarah) Sims; a daughter-in-law, Jenny Sims; and five grandchildren: Payton, Brock, Cole, Easton and Jackston Sims. Also preceding him in death was a son, Marion Travis Sims.
Services were at noon Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Carlisle Christian Church by Rev. Steve Smith with burial having followed on the family lot in Carlisle Cemetery. Visitation was after 5 p.m. Monday at the church.
