Mr. Charles William “Wally” Watkins, Jr.
Mr. Charles William “Wally” Watkins, Jr., a native of Paris, passed from death unto life on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, just one day after his 50th birthday. Though his time on earth was shorter than those who loved him had hoped, the memories he created, the relationships he cherished, and the love he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Wally was born to Ms. Cheryl Lynn Britton Watkins and Mr. Charles William Watkins, Sr. Early in life, he professed his hope in Christ and became a member of First Baptist Church in Paris, Kentucky, at an early age, under the pastorate of the late Rev. E. M. Johnson. The principles of Christ guided him throughout his life, and he demonstrated his faith through the way he lived and treated his fellow man, regardless of station in life.
Wally was a dedicated and hardworking man. He was previously employed at Johnson Controls in Georgetown before continuing his career at Toyota in Georgetown, where he served as a group leader. Through his work, he demonstrated commitment and dedication and left a lasting impression on those with whom he worked.
Wally was also known for his sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor. His quips and playful spirit kept his family and friends laughing, and those closest to him could always count on him to bring joy to any gathering. He shared a special bond with his fiancée, Dolly Ponce, as well as with her children and grandchildren. He also held a deep affection for his beloved dog, Preston, who was a cherished part of his life.
Wally leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, Ms. Cheryl Lynn Britton Watkins and Mr. Charles William Watkins, Sr.; his fiancée, Dolly Ponce; and his beloved dog, Preston. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Robert and Sarah Britton of Georgia; Phyllis and Jerry Barnes of Paris; Howard Michael “Mike” Britton of Lexington; Richard Britton of Paris; Sandy Britton of Louisville; Deborah and James Washington of Lexington; Donnie, Eugene, and Robert Watkins of Lexington; Connie Hutsell of Paris; and Renaldo Fields of Lexington.
He leaves a special cousin with whom he grew up as a brother, Jerry “Flea” Barnes, Jr. (Pam), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Wally was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. Barton and Mrs. Mary Britton, Mrs. Dorothy Watkins, and Mr. Ray Watkins; and his uncles, James Barton “J.B.” Britton, Thomas “Tommy” Britton, and Gilbert Ray Watkins, Jr.
We are reminded that if a man has one friend in life, he is a rich man. Wally was blessed with several special friends who walked alongside him on his life’s journey, including Aaron Speakes, Aaron Crumbie, Robert Lang, Geno Ewalt, and Kelly Catlett.
Though Wally’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, his life will be remembered through the love he gave, the friendships he nurtured, his quick wit, and the many memories he leaves behind. His unexpected departure reminds us to cherish every moment, embrace those we love, and never take the gift of life for granted.
As family and friends reflect on Wally’s life, may they find comfort in the time they shared with him, strength in one another, and peace in knowing that his love and memory will live on for generations to come.
Rest peacefully, Wally. We will meet again, in the great resurrection. But until then, you will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved you.
