Frank Garnett Matthews

Born September 06, 1930 in Harrison Co. KY., growing up in Connersville. He attended Connersville High School and he went on to attend Eastern Kentucky University where he received a degree in Business Administration. After college he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in the Korean War. When he returned from his overseas commitment, he continued serving in the Marine Corp Reserve, retiring at the rank of Major after 20 years of service. He started his business career in Paris as a Vice President at the National Bank. He also worked for Sam Cummins Chevrolet as service manager and then with Hinkle Contacting as shop and equipment foreman; he then changed career paths and went to work as a property manager for a Mobile Home Park in Jessamine Co., where he ran a store, sold insurance and sold trailers as well called them, but we were always corrected to say”mobile homes”.
He retired when he turned 65 and became a world traveler, traveling toEurope, Asia and The Soviet Union. He was a golfer and liked to hunt and fish. He was an avid “gym rat” where he attended The Lexington Athletic Club for over 50 years up until a month before his death. He was an active member of the Marine Corps League where he led the honor guard. He attended the Lexington Citizens Police Academy.
Frank was married to Marianne Royden Matthews where they had three children and was married a second time to Noel White. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wanda Pavord, and his first wife Marianne. Frank is survived by his son Mark(Lisa) granddaughters Megan and Taylor, son Mike, grandson Jonathan(Britney) and great granddaughter Frankie, and daughter Melinda (Richard Johnson). He had three special friends that saw to him getting to the gym, grocery, getting his mail in and generally looking after him, Rick Hicks, Bill Martin and Michael Johnson. And he always said how his nurse Jennifer Folton from Caretenders took really good care of him.
Services were held at Kerr Brothers on Harrodsburg Rd on Tuesday April 22 at 1230, with visitation from 10:30 to 12:30. Burial followed at 230 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to The Marine Corps League, Dan Daly Detachment 245 Lexington Green Circle, Lexington Ky. 40503. Or The Wounded Warrior Project.
