Willmenia Wess
Willmenia Wess was born January 19, 1942. She was the first child of Louella Crooks and daughter of Albert Hanley. She was the elder sister of five siblings. As a young child, she was given the nickname of Mena. That name has stayed with her for 78 years. Mena was baptized and joined Zion Baptist Church at an early age and was still an active member until she got ill and hospitalized in February of this year. She was gifted with a beautiful voice and used her voice in the church and community praising God. She was a sassy little woman who spoke her mind when necessary.
Willmenia graduated from Western High School in 1960. She was the mother of one son, Charles Antonio Hanley and was married to Garland Wess. She worked at Mallinckrodt Inc. until her retirement in 2006. She was a faithful member of Post 165 American Legion Auxillary and a member of the American Legion Choir. She was also a member of the Culinary Board at Zion Baptist Church and a member of MGM, a social club.
Willmenia is lovingly survived by her grandson, Cameron Hanley; a niece, Louella Fields; three sisters, Augustine (James) Fields, Mable Rankins and Mary Henry; one brother, Tyrone (Ella Mae) Tucker; mother in law, Delphia Baker; three stepchildren, Renita, Venita and Carrie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mena joins her family and ancestors now and is predeceased by a husband, Garland Wess; son, Charles A. Hanley; mother, Louella Crooks; father, Albert Hanley; two brothers, Marion Jackson and Phelan Crooks; one stepson, Clifford Wess and grandparents, Albert and Henrietta Crooks.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Evergreen Memory Gardens, 5364 Lexington Rd., Paris, KY by Rev. Aaron Crumbie. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Friday, July 17, 2020 at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY.
Pallbearers will be Chad Brown, McClelan Robinson, Bro. Charles Taylor, Deacon Calvin Wilson, Kerry Thompson, Cameron Hanley and Ronnie Mack.
