Local Horsemen Share Their Picks For The Kentucky Derby
Citizen staffers Pat Conley and Bobby Shiflet collaborated on this survey of local folks associated with the thoroughbred racing industry, including The Citizen’s own horseracing columnist, Phil Hanrahan. At least four Derby entrants, Art Collector, King Guillermo, Money Moves and Authentic have a Bourbon County connection.
ART COLLECTOR SCRATCHED–-After the print version had gone to press, the news came that the 2020 Kentucky Derby field was reduced to 18, as Art Collector was pulled from the lineup earlier this week after suffering a foot injury while galloping at Churchill Downs. Art Collector had been picked by many noted Bourbon County horsemen to finish in the money; he was born and raised at Claiborne Farm. Two other Derby entrants, Money Moves and Authentic, were foaled locally at Indian Creek Farm and Hurricane Hills Farm, respectively. And Blandford Stud of Bourbon County was the agent for the yearling sale of King Guillermo.
