Carol Hirsch Loeffler

Carol Hirsch Loeffler, 90. was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois on February 8, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Dorothy Rippe Hirsch who ran funeral homes in the area. Carol spent her childhood in Chicago Heights and graduated from Bloom High School. She had a special gift for music, specifically the organ and took the train into Chicago every week to study with professional musicians.
Carol continued her education at Purdue University in West Lafyette, Indiana. In college, Carol held several offices on campus including President of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and junior officer of Student Union Board.
Carol met the love of her life, Ed Loeffler, at Purdue and they married after both graduated in 1957. Ed was an engineer whose work moved them many times between the Midwest and East Coast during their 68 years of marriage.
When Carol entered the workforce, after her children were old enough, she worked for St. Paul Federal Savings and Loan in Chicago. Beginning as a teller, she quickly rose through the ranks until she was an officer of the bank. Over the course of her career, she wore many hats from investment counselor, to stock and commodities trader, to the “go-to” retail branch manager for renovations.
Carol’s greatest delight has always been her grandchildren! She never failed to have their favorite treat on hand whenever they visited. She attended countless swim meets and dance recitals, school events and sacraments. She helped with carpools, bath times, and always, always read stories before bedtime. Carol took them on vacations to the beach and Disney World. She bought the gifts their parents couldn’t afford and provided a safe place to land – no questions asked. Felix, Kate, Nestor, Noah and Samantha blossomed thanks in great part to Grammy’s unconditional love.
Carol and Ed retired from Chicago to Kentucky in 1990 and lived there very happily for more than 20 years watching their grandchildren grow. Unexpectedly, they discovered a love for the beauty of the countryside and a passion for UK Basketball.
She is survived by two children, Julianne (Craig) Struening and Annemarie (Dan) Worobetz; five grandchildren, Felix (Julie) Spittler, Kathryn Spittler, Nestor (Julie) Worobetz, Noah (Elizabeth Barmash) Worobetz and Samantha Worobetz; three great grandchildren, Natalie, Elizabeth and Juliet Spittler and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Carl Stuart Loeffler; daughter-in-law, Margaret Loeffler; and two brothers, Richard Hirsch and James Carl “Bud” Hirsch.
Funeral Mass was conducted at 1:00 PM Friday April 25, 2025, at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation, 1007 Main St., Paris, KY by Father Jeffrey Estacio with burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Paris, KY. Visitation was from 11:00 AM Friday April 25, 2024, until the hour of service at the church.
