America’s 250th anniversary planning meeting is set for January 28th at Bourbon County Park
Dates are becoming more concrete for the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Everyone is invited to the next planning meeting on Wednesday, January 28th at 4:30 p.m. in the Legion Hall at the Bourbon County Park.
The 250th anniversary kickoff event is set for Saturday, January 24th at Duncan Tavern. The Tavern plans include an open house which will feature a quilt raffle, along with stickers and flags. Cheryl Stone will have two quilts to raffle. One for the raffle in January and the other one for mid-year. Jemima Johnson DAR is providing refreshments, and serve and sell their specialty coffee.
The 250th commemorative cookbooks are almost ready to go the printers. Due to the large amount of recipes submitted, the book will now have over 300 unique recipes passed down from generations. The books are priced at $10.00 each. The Bourbon County Citizen hopes to have these books ready in early March.
Michael Sparks is planning to have a flag jump from the air to celebrate Flag Day (June 14), designated for Tuesday, June 16. It would also include a lesson on the proper way to retire a flag.
Sharon Fields has reported that the Charles Young Unit 165 Auxiliary will donate 200 books on the proposed parade day, July 3. The books tell about the American Flag.
She also said that she plans to provide all fifth graders in all the schools with her book, Where Are You, Brother Daniel. The book is written for young readers and sheds light on an overlooked parts of American history.
The Independence Day parade is set for July 3.
The July 4th celebration will be held at Legion Park and include vendors, live music, games, contests, and of course, fireworks.
The Central Kentucky Concert Band is set to perform patriotic music at the Nannine Clay Wallis Arboretum on Sunday, July 5.
There will be Memorial Day and Founder’s Day events in Millersburg as well as the revival of Chautauqua Days on September 11-13.
