Judy Kathleen Burchell Abney

Judy Kathleen Burchell Abney, of Paris, Kentucky, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and devoted friend passed away Saturday February 21, 2026 at the age of 79. She was the wife of Clarence Allen Abney (married May 15, 1987). Judy was born in Lexington Kentucky to the late Ellen Gray Williams Burchell and Aaron Burchell. She was the youngest of eleven children. She was a graduate of Bryan Station High School. After graduation she served our country joining the Navy. Judy served in the Navy for 3 years during the Vietnam War. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in elementary education. After a short time teaching she decided that teaching was not for her. She then took a job at the United States Post Office and retired from there. Judy loved playing the guitar, singing, going out to dinner and riding horses. Her favorite horse was Loki. Judy had many close friends who also shared her love for horses.
In addition to her parents Judy was preceded in death by her loving son Justin (Gena Beard), sisters Sue (Ellis) Bowman, Ollie (Ralph) Reynolds, Nellie (Raymond) Schlachter, Tina (Tommy) Mahanes, brothers Robert (Nancy) Burchell, Phillip (Sharon) Burchell and brothers-in-law Eddie Cox, Ray Asher and Paul Rainey. She is survived by her loving husband Clarence, sisters Jean (Eddie) Cox, Pat (Ray) Asher, Mary Ann (Paul) Rainey, brother David (Nell) Burchell, sister-in-law Sharon Burchell, brothers-in-law Tommy Mahanes and Larry (Marjorie) Abney and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and devoted friends. We will miss her terribly but take comfort in knowing she is whole and in the presence of our savior Jesus Christ and her son, parents and loved ones who went before her. We also take comfort in knowing that this is a temporary separation and we will see her again.
We would like to thank the exceptional staff at Legacy Reserve at Fritz Farm Memory care. They treated Judy with great care and love. The following staff members went above and beyond to provide loving care to Judy and Clarence – Keri Hampton, Debbie Rodriguez, Lori Rosse, Wanda Stephens, Lana Williams and Christen Martin. Words can not express our gratitude for your caring service.
Visitation for Judy will be on Friday, February 27, 2026 beginning at 11:00 at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home with funeral service to begin at 1:00 with Reverend Lee Cox officiating. Internment will follow at Paris Cemetery with casket bearers Kent Reynolds, Jeffrey Asher, John Paul Rainey, Steven Mahanes, Darrin Burchell, Keith Burchell and Alan Abney. Honorary casket bearers are Margie Benzie, Connie Hahn and Tammy Shannon.
