James Marshall Gabbard Jr.,

James Marshall Gabbard Jr., known affectionately to friends and family as Jim, passed away on March 9, 2025, in his hometown of Lexington, Kentucky, at the age of 73. Born on October 2, 1951, Jim was a cherished member of the community, whose generosity and warmth left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. Jim’s love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 54 years, Malinda Vice Gabbard, and their children, Christopher Gabbard and Lisa Gabbard Isaacs (Austin). He was the proud grandfather of Michael Isaacs, Carrie Isaacs, Asia Gabbard, and Makayla Gabbard, passing down his love for adventure and the simple joys of life. Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be upheld by his sister, Janet Smith, and his brother, Mark (Kristi) Gabbard, along with numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Traci Hunter. While predeceased by his parents, James and Bessie Gabbard, his in-laws, Maurice and Dorothy Vice, as well as his siblings, Wanda Snow and Stevie Gabbard, and his grandson, Christopher Marshall Gabbard, his memory will live on through the stories and lives of his extensive family. A hardworking man, Jim dedicated many years to his work as a truck driver for Haynes Trucking of Lexington and later as an electrician at Watkins Electric, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. But beyond his work, Jim will be remembered for his unwavering faith and service. As a proud member and volunteer at River of Life Ministries, he served as the director of The River of Life Food Pantry, sharing blessings and sustenance with those in need. Jim’s fondness for nature was evident through his passion for fishing and hunting. He was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Sports, celebrating every triumph with the same vigor as he lived his life. Jim embodied the spirit of community and faith, spending countless hours with his family and church family and actively serving the community. In living a life defined by care, commitment, and faith, Jim Gabbard’s memory will forever be a beacon of how love can truly inspire and transform a community. His spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched, as they carry forward the lessons of kindness and compassion he exemplified throughout his life. The Pallbearers were Michael Isaacs, Carrie Issacs, Austin Hensley, Greg Coulter, Paul Walker and Mark Gabbard. Honorary pallbearers were Allen Clark, Len Clark and Lloyde York.
Funeral services were conducted at 5:30 PM Thursday March 13, 2025, at the River of Life Ministries, 616 Clintonville Road, Paris Ky. 40361 by Pastor Krista Hampton. Visitation was from 3:30 PM Thursday March 13, 2025, until the hour of service at the church
The funeral arrangements were entrusted to Lusk McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY.
