Leonard F. “Tunn” Howard, Jr.

Leonard F. “Tunn” Howard, Jr., 61, husband of almost 45 years to Kathy Sumner Howard, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at his home in Nicholas County.
Born April 7, 1964 in Bourbon County to the late Leonard, Sr. and Mary Agnes Soister Howard, he worked for many years as a shipping and receiving clerk for Stamler Corporation and Fryman’s Welding, and was a member of the Community Chapel Church. Tunn enjoyed collecting guns, target shooting at the range he built at home, attending his grandson’s ball games, watching westerns– especially The Rifleman, and working in his flower garden.
Additional survivors include his children, Joshua Robert Howard and Kandice Lee Howard (Chad Crump, Sr.); a sister, Mary Frances (Gary) Link; a grandson, Chad “C.J.” Crump, Jr.; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Sumner; his sister-in-law, Kimberly Smith; several nieces and nephews, and a large extended family.
Also preceding him in death were three brothers: Donald Ray, Ralph and Dennis Howard; his father-in-law, Robert G. Sumner, Sr.; and a brother-in-law, Bobby Sumner.
A Celebration of Life was held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, August 22nd at Community Chapel Church officiated by Rev. Jimmy Jolly and Chad Jolly with visitation at at 2:00 P.M.
Honorary bearers were all of his dear friends and family.
Leonard was inurned on the Sumner Family Lot at Carlisle Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home.
