Matthew “Matt” Pickup

Matthew “Matt” Pickup passed away on July 3, 2023 having walked 54 years on this earth. He is survived by his devoted wife Kathy Pickup. Matt lived his whole life in Kentucky and although he spent most of his life as an electrician, he shared Kathy’s passion for the rescue and care of horses otherwise destined for slaughter. Together they founded a non-profit equine sanctuary in their hometown of Paris and as it grew, they welcomed home other animals needing their love and care.
Matt spent the last two years of his life in his new venture of transporting horses across the country for clients that he valued so dearly. Matt was a great “dad” to his beloved dogs, a compassionate son to his late in-laws, and a true guardian of God’s creatures.
A private gathering for Matt’s friends will be held at the farm that he cherished. Those moved to honor Matt’s legacy may make a tax deductible donation to Off The Pace Standardbreds, Inc.
