David E. Waite
David E. Waite, 72, husband of Anna Hawkins Waite, died Thursday November 2, 2023, at his home in Knoxville, TN.
He was born in Chester, PA to the late Clayland and Mary Edith Hopkins Waite. David lived life to the fullest by learning to do many things over the course of his 72 years. As a young man he drove big rigs and was also a crew member on sailboats that would travel from Florida to the west coast via the Panama Canal. He later moved from Key West, FL to Lexington, KY and obtained a law degree from the University of Kentucky. During his career he served as a Bourbon County Assistant Attorney, and a North Middletown City Attorney, and eventually retired from Owings, Wilson and Coleman Law Firm in Knoxville, TN.
David enjoyed long distance running and bicycling as well as playing the drums, keyboard and singing. He was an avid reader, a Washington Nationals baseball fan and worked with inmates on death row. He was an active member of St. Anne Orthodox Church where he sang in the choir.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Hawkins Waite; two children, Frank (Caresse) Waite and Billie (Michael) Martin; eleven grandchildren, Grey Martin, Owen Martin, Pearl Waite, Ruby Waite, Jack Dalton Waite, Vera Waite, Lucy Waite, Olivia Waite, Evelynn Waite, Carter Acuff and Aria Acuff; one brother, Clayland Waite; daughter-in-law, Amanda Waite; former daughter-in-law, Rebecca Waite; special nephew, David Derenge and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one son, Jack Tyler Waite.
Funeral services were conducted at 9:00 AM Friday November 3, 2023, at St. Anne Orthodox Church in Oak Ridge, TN by Father Daniel Greeson. A graveside service was also conducted at 3:30 PM Friday November 3, 2023, at the North Middletown Cemetery, North Middletown, KY.
Funeral arrangements were coordinated by both Stevens Mortuary in Knoxville, TN and Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home in Paris, KY.
