Rev. Kay McFarland
With sadness, we announce the death of the Rev. Kay McFarland who died on October 21, 2023.
Kay served as an Interim Pastor at First Christian Church of Fremont, one of the predecessor congregations of Niles Discovery Church. She maintained her membership at Niles Discovery Church in retirement.
Betty Kay was born in Pikeville, KY to Rev. C. Oral Lowe and Mary Margaret Lowe. Betty Kay was divorced and lived with her daughter Martha in Castro Valley, CA. Betty Kay graduated Suma Cum Loda from TCU and started her ministry in Texas, Florida, Indiana, Alabama, and California as a Disciple of Christ minister. She was a devoted Beta Sigma Phi member for over 25 years, and a secretary for the Movers and Shakers.
She was preceded in death by her parents C. Oral Lowe and Mary Margaret Clark Lowe, and daughter Mary Kay McFarland. Kay is survived by her brother Stephen C. Lowe (Gale), her sister Charlotte Jane Bocox (George), her daughters Nancy G. McNeill (John), Martha J. McFarland, and her son Ted McFarland. She had a large extended family including nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family plans to bury Kay’s body in Kentucky, next to her daughter who died at age 15 from complications of cystic fibrosis.
Services for Rev. Betty Kay McFarland will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the North Middletown Cemetery. Burial will follow at North Middletown Cemetery in North Middletown, Kentucky.
