Ruby Jewell Hedges Harris, a beacon of warmth and wisdom, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024, at the age of 81 in her hometown of Cynthiana, KY, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 3, 1942, in Cynthiana, she was a longtime resident and a cherished member of Millersburg, KY.
Ruby’s life was a testament to her spirited and selfless nature. She was a devoted mother to her seven children, Dale (Donna) Osborne, Ruby Osborne, Duane (Jennifer) Osborne, Rose Sears, Gary (Kim) Osborne, Sheila (Dennis) Buckler, and Michael (Karie) Harris. Her love and guidance were also a blessing to her 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Ruby’s family was the cornerstone of her life, and she instilled in them the values of kindness, resilience, and the importance of family bonds.
Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved father, Orie Boone Hedges, her mother, Ruby Christine Kiskaden Russell, her son, James Osborne, Jr., her daughter-in-law, Jennie Osborne, her brothers, William Banfield and Orie Banfield, and her sister, Carolyn White. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will continue to be inspired by her legacy.
A savvy businesswoman, Ruby was the proud owner and operator of Bridget’s Kitchen in Millersburg, KY. Her restaurant was more than just a place to eat; it was a hub of community activity and fellowship. She was known for her generous hospitality, often hosting the Millersburg Rotary Club and other community gatherings at her establishment.
Ruby’s interests were as rich and varied as her life. She had a passion for playing cards, a hobby that brought her joy and laughter. Ruby was also an avid fan of the game show Jeopardy, where she would challenge herself and play along with the contestants, often outsmarting them from the comfort of her living room. Above all, Ruby loved spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren, creating memories that they will treasure forever.
Those who knew Ruby would describe her as wise beyond her years, with a spirit that was infectious and a selflessness that knew no bounds. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, and her presence was a source of comfort and strength to many.
