On May 1st William E Davis, Jr, age 94, died in Birmingham, AL. He had lived in Alabama since the passing of his beloved wife, Peggy, in 2018. He was born in the former Belgian Congo, on August 13th, 1929. The son of Christian missionaries, he lived in Africa until age 7, when he traveled back to the United States through Europe and moved with his family to Central Kentucky, settling in North Middletown. He and his family attended and were members of the North Middletown Christian Church. Graduating from North Middletown High School in 1947, he attended the University of Kentucky, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His first job was at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Marietta, GA. While living in Atlanta, he met Peggy (McIntyre) Davis at Peachtree Christian Church and they married in 1953 and spent the next 65 years together.
The family, which over time included two sons and a daughter, moved a number of times during his career in engineering. He would leave the engineering profession a few times trying his hand at home construction and recreational vehicle design and startup, before settling back into engineering. He concluded his career as an engineer and founder of Predator Systems Inc., in Boca Raton, FL. He retired back to North Middletown, his favorite place and where he grew up. There he oversaw the family farm, Pleasant Hill Farm, and became a dedicated member, leader and choir member of North Middletown Christian Church.
Bill Davis, proud husband and father, preceded in death by his wife Charlotte (Peggy), and his grandson William Benjamin Hale, leaves behind his three children, William E Davis, III (Lisa) of Alpharetta, GA, Jon H Davis (Jettye) of Birmingham, AL, and Deborah Newell Davis of Paris, KY. He is survived by his six grandchildren — Jed Hale, Megan Davis, Cody Williams, Molly Wright, Anna Davis and Lucie Davis, as well as his great grandchildren — William Hugh Davis, Lukas Hale, Olivia Hale, Amelia Wright, Leo Bolack, Charlie Wright, and Teddy Bolack. He also leaves behind a brother, Thomas A Davis, of University Park, WA.
A memorial service in his memory will be held this summer on Saturday, August 10th, visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and the service will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial to follow at North Middletown Cemetery.
