Florence Omega Clifton Ferguson

Florence Omega Clifton Ferguson

Florence Omega Clifton Ferguson, a beacon of love and faith, peacefully passed onto her heavenly home on August 29, 2024, in Paris, Kentucky. Born on March 8, 1936, in Montgomery, Alabama, Florence’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, hard work and family bonds. As the notes Florence wrote in her bible read, she tried to live her life according to God’s desire for us to pray like Elijah, endure persecution like Jeremiah, do personal work like Philip and have zeal like Paul.

She was a devoted, loving mother to her family, which included her seven children. She will be missed by her four sons, Travis Andrew (Jennifer) Ferguson of Georgetown, KY, Thomas Morton (Erin) Ferguson of Paris, KY, Richard Fletcher (Jacquelyn) Ferguson of Enterprise, AL, and David Scott Ferguson of Paris, KY. She was also a cherished sister to her brother, Levis Clifton, Sr. of Grady, AL. Florence’s legacy extends to her ten grandchildren, Kevin Arthur Bradley Hayden, Tamara Michelle Hayden Bogard, Robert Joseph Carr, Rachel Lynese (Jason) McCoy, Corey Morgan Starr (Jefferson) Wilham, Justin Scott (Erin) Ferguson, Jessica Nicole (Tyler) Tucker, Joshua Kyle (Caroline) Ferguson, Adaliene Catherine Ferguson, and Thomas Eugene (Angela) Ferguson, as well as her ten great-grandchildren, Donovan, Mason, Brewer, Ray, Jacob, Katie, Finn, Lydia, Evie, and Isla. She also leaves behind her extended Butler family and many nieces, nephews, and cousins all of whom she loved dearly. Her French Bulldog, Josephine, was her loyal companion.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Elzie B. and Mabel C. Wilkins Clifton, her first husband, Bobby Butler, her three daughters, Patricia Gayle Bogard, Robbie Jean Butler, Cynthia Diane Butler, her four brothers, Robert Clifton, Ellis Clifton, James Clifton, and Henry Clifton, her five sisters, Hattie Clifton, Edna Ransom, Helen Dyess, Ethel Rodgers, and Nancy Calhoun.

A woman of deep faith, Florence was an active member of the Pine Level Baptist Church of Pine Level, AL, where she sang in the choir, played the piano and was Sunday School Secretary. Her musical talents were a source of joy to all present.

Her home was the place that her children and grandchildren always came back together to reconnect, watch Auburn Alabama football games, deer hunt, target shoot and occasionally blow things up in her back yard. You could always find sweet tea in the fridge, cornbread dressing, pecan pies and potato salad to enjoy among a lot of laughter.

Momma loved living in her Alabama home close to 50 years until moving to Paris, Kentucky in 2019. She often asked us to move her back home, and even threatened hitchhiking.

Florence was committed to her health and enjoyed daily walks up to a few months before her passing. Her determination to keep moving was an encouragement to those around her.

Described as loving, quick witted, gentle and peaceful, Florence’s faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior was the cornerstone of her existence. She faithfully prayed the Lord’s Prayer and humming gospel hymns daily.

As we bid farewell to Florence Omega Clifton Ferguson, we celebrate a life devotionally lived and a legacy of love that will endure through the generations and forever cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
