Larry Michael “Mike” Smith, known endearingly to friends and family as Mike, passed away peacefully in his birthplace of Paris, KY, on January 24, 2025. Born on June 4, 1959, to the late Colby and Pearl Townsend Smith, he lived a full life characterized by genuine kindness, a friendly demeanor, and deep faith.
Mike graduated from Paris High School, where he cultivated lasting friendships and a passion for service. Throughout his life, Mike dedicated himself to his work as a custodian for Paris City Schools and Bourbon County Schools, ensuring a welcoming and clean environment for all who entered. His commitment to the community extended to his time as an employee of the City of Paris and Bourbon County Fire Departments, where he worked with dedication and courage.
Mike’s love for people was well-known, evidenced by his active involvement in Calvary Christian Church in Paris, KY, where he derived great joy from his faith and fellowship. He had an insatiable love for music, finding comfort and happiness in its melodies. He was also an avid card player, with Crazy Eights being his game of choice, and he treasured these moments shared with friends and family.
Mike was a cherished husband to Sheila Holbrook Smith and a beloved stepfather to Justin (Megan) Clark and Austin Clark. As a step grandfather, his playful spirit shone brightest when he was with his step grandchild, Emerson Clark. He leaves behind a legacy of love with his brother, Jamie Smith, and sister, Connie (Dean) Soard, as well as his brother-in-law, Steve Holbrook, mother-in-law, Anna Holbrook, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mike’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, friendship, and unwavering faith. His ability to connect with anyone and his titling as a “real people person” will ensure his memory is held dear in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Larry Michael “Mike” Smith will be profoundly missed yet lovingly remembered.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday January 28, 2025, at the Calvary Christian Church, 610 Clintonville Rd., Paris, KY by Bro. Ronnie Hupp. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM Tuesday January 28, 2025, until the hour of service at the church.
