John “Ruff” Ewalt

John “Ruff” Ewalt, age 74, a well-known Bourbon County cowboy and U.S. Air Force veteran, husband of Dr. Kendra Barrows Ewalt, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 3, 2025 after a day doing what he loved most, working cattle. John was born March 7, 1950 in Paris, son of the late J. Frank and Louise Ewalt.
John leaves behind his three favorite strong women; his loving wife and best friend, “Doc” Kendra, and the two incredible daughters he was most proud of. His oldest daughter, Kate, her husband Cullen, their children Rett, Millie, and Adrienne “Dooner” Bailey of Chipley, Florida, and his youngest daughter Grace Ewalt of Paris, a student at Morehead State University. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Ewalt, a nephew and several nieces.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Ewalt; and three sisters, Jan Ewalt, Jane Gray, and Ann “Cissy” Garrison.
John is most well known for his tough cowboy ways, a huge heart, and his unwavering work ethic. He will be missed by so many, especially those who feel most at home in cowboy hats and dirty boots, riding horses, and driving tractors.
Services was handled by Hinton Turner Funeral home. On Friday February 7th the family gathered with friends at 1 pm, Cullen Bailey officiated a Memorial Service at 2 pm at the funeral home followed by ‘One Last Ride’ in downtown Paris. Following services, friends are welcome back to their Four Spears Farm on See Road for a Celebration of Life. www.hintonturner.com
