Mona Carol Garrett Vice

Mona Carol Garrett Vice, 66, of Carlisle, wife of Mark Allen Vice, gained her heavenly wings on May 6th, 2025 at the University of Kentucky Hospital.
A Nicholas County native, Mona was born on September 13th, 1958. She was a 1976 graduate of Nicholas County High School and attended college at Eastern Kentucky University. Mona spent many years as an Information System Support Supervisor with Appalachian Regional Healthcare and received many certificates indicating advanced knowledge in her field. She was a long-time dedicated Nicholas County Board of Education member for 30 years, serving as Chairperson for 28 of those years. The Board of Education and community of Carlisle truly benefited from Mona’s kind spirit, patience, intelligence, and passion for students. Mona enjoyed staying busy with various jobs and activities such as making quilts, altering clothing, showing horses years ago, relaxing at her houseboat, playing with her dogs, and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed years of being a small business owner and enjoyed serving her community in that capacity. Mona loved traveling and we have no doubts that she was thrilled to get to take one last trip to the beach a few weeks ago. She cherished the relationships that she had built over her lifetime within the community of Carlisle and surrounding towns and will be profoundly missed by all that knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Mark Vice; her mother, Norma Jean Whaley, of Carlisle; her children Brian (Cara) Clark, of Lexington and Andrew Clark, of Carlisle; her brother, Norval (Becky) Garrett, of Murfreesboro, TN; her grandchildren Cameron and Collier Clark, of Lexington; and numerous loved family members and friends.
Mona was preceded in death by two of her children: Dustin Courtney Clark and Christopher Garrett Clark; her father, Norval Eugene Garrett; and her stepfather, AB Whaley.
Services were held at the Carlisle Chapel on Monday, May 12th at 11:00 am, officiated by Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. Doug Alexander with burial following in the Carlisle Cemetery. Visitation started at 5:00 pm on Sunday, May 11th and the Carlisle Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Moorefield Christian Church.
Pallbearers included: Doug Bechanan, Davo Caswell, Daryl Cook, Donnie Fugett, Bill Martin, and Roger Vice. Honorary pallbearers included current and past members of the Nicholas County Board of Education and members of the Moorefield Christian Church.
