Robert Ray “Bob” Russell

Robert Ray “Bob” Russell, a beacon of optimism and kindness, passed away on April 15, 2024, at the age of 75. He was born on April 19, 1948, in Chicago, IL, and spent his final moments surrounded by the love and care of his family. Bob’s life was a symphony of love, music, and joy, which resonated deeply with all who knew him.
A retired jazz musician and a deft saxophone player, Bob’s passion for music was paralleled only by his commitment to his country, having honorably served in the United States Navy. His melodies not only filled the halls where he played but also the hearts of his audience.

Bob’s life was rich with the love of his family. He is survived by his three devoted children, Renee (Richard) Appleby, Carla (Kevin) Stamper, and Michael (Allyson) Russell. The mother of his children, Ginny Russell, shared in the journey of raising their wonderful family. His legacy continues to thrive through his six grandchildren, Regan Dunlop, Trent Dunlop, Emily (Wesley) Dotson, Ethan Stamper, Emma Russell, and Morgan Russell, as well as his great-grandson, Waylen Dotson, who brought him immense joy and pride. His sister, Deborah (Ralph) Bradley, his nephews, Scott and Brian Bradley, his niece, Kelly Bradley, and several cousins will hold dear the memory of his loving spirit.

Beyond his family and music, Bob had a zest for life that was evident in his varied interests. He found peace in walking, often reflecting on the beauty of nature and the simple pleasures of life. His love for jazz was a constant companion, as was his appreciation for the finer things, such as collecting antiques and savoring a good bourbon whiskey. Above all, Bob cherished the time spent with his family, recognizing that those moments were the truest treasures of his life.

Those who knew Bob will remember him as a man whose heart was as warm as his smile. He approached life with an unwavering optimism that inspired others to see the good in every situation. His kindness was a gift he freely gave, never expecting anything in return. He was the embodiment of love, not just in words, but in his actions and the way he treated everyone he met.

As we bid farewell to Robert Ray “Bob” Russell, we celebrate a life beautifully lived. His melody may have quieted, but his song remains with us, playing on in the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the love he spread. Bob’s spirit will forever be a guiding light to his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing this remarkable man.

We take comfort in knowing that Bob’s journey continues beyond the veil, where the music never ends and love is eternal. His was a life that exemplified what it means to be truly loving, genuinely optimistic, and unfailingly kind. May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire and uplift us all.
