Katherine Anne Lane Langfels
Katherine Anne Lane Langfels, wife of Billy Ray Langfels, of Paris, Kentucky, passed away on November 9, 2024, at the age of 84 years, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her loving family. Born August 22, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Katherine was the eldest daughter of the late Russell John and Maple Katherine Sparks Lane. She married Billy Ray Langfels on January 18, 1964, and the couple then established their home on Clintonville Road, where together they were blessed with six children.
In addition to being a dedicated mother, she occupied numerous positions in her local community and parish. Katherine was an active member of the Bourbon County Extension Homemakers for fifty-seven years. A talented and creative woman, she was an avid basket maker and a passionate teacher who enjoyed crafting in various forms. As a member of the Garden Club, Katherine had a deep appreciation for plants and flowers. She also passed on her love for music by teaching many of her grandchildren how to play the piano, while also instilling in them a fondness and competitiveness for card and board games. Throughout her life, Katherine was a devout member of the Church of the Annunciation, remaining steadfast in her Catholic faith and church involvement. According to the late Father Ray Stratman, Katherine was considered the “Queen” of church participation. As a member of the Annunciation Women’s Club, she cherished the annual church Christmas Boutique, which she helped establish over fifty years ago. Additionally, Katherine was among the first instructors for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults at Annunciation, and she, along with her husband Billy, served as baptism instructors and youth group leaders for many years. She was the heart of our home and family and will be greatly missed by many.
Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Maple Katherine Lane, and her brothers, John Lane and Albert J. Lane. Katherine is survived by her husband of sixty years, Billy Ray Langfels, and their children Antoinette (Sean) Staples, Stephanie Langfels, William (Isabel) Langfels, Joseph (Natascha) Langfels, Timothy Langfels, and Bartholomew Langfels. Katherine, Mrs Langfells taught me to make a fabric baskets many years ago at the hive of her daughter Antoinette Staples. I made a few more later. Was asked to join and attend Craft camps and sewing trips. Always enjoyed doing things with her. She was a great teacher of many crafts and always shared supplies. So sorry for the family’s loss.
