Eva Maxine Watkins
Eva Maxine Watkins, 92, of Carlisle, KY, passed away on August 26, 2025. She was born on June 1, 1933, in Bourbon County, KY, to the late Ernest Townsend and Gladys Lee Clem Odor.
Maxine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Sanford Watkins; her son, Charles William Watkins; her parents, Ernest Townsend and Gladys Odor; five sisters, Rosie Lee Townsend, Ethal Barnett, Pearlie Louise York, Marie Talbot, and Sue Treadway; and her brother, John Townsend.
Maxine worked at Hansley Mills for 19 years before deciding to farm alongside her husband, Sanford, and their three sons. She successfully ran a full-time dairy operation while also cooking lunches for farmhands and heading out to the fields to work before milking cows again. After retiring from the dairy, she worked alongside her son Denny at his store for 7 years, where she prepared delicious home-cooked meals that quickly sold out each day. She loved talking with customers, sewing, canning, and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a brother Larry Townsend, two sisters Mary Ann Berryman and Charolotte Morrison, two sons, Dennis Clay Watkins (Sandye) and Robert “Bobby” Watkins; a daughter-in-law, Connie Watkins; five grandchildren, Tammy Watkins Hardwick, Mike Watkins (Beth), Sam Watkins, John Watkins (Paula), and Kevin Watkins (Andrea); as well as many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday August 31, 2025, from 5-8 p.m. at Carlisle-Clark Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Monday September 1, 2025, at 11 am at Carlisle-Clark Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Smith officiating with burial following in Carlisle Cemetery.
Pallbearers are John Watkins, Dustin Watkins, Terry Fryman, Sam Watkins, Daniel Eubanks, Larry Townsend. Carlisle-Clark Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
