Darrin Lane Sears

Darrin Lane Sears, 56, was born on December 4, 1969, in Paris, Kentucky, and passed away on April 15, 2026, in Lexington, Kentucky.
Darrin lived a life marked by service, intellect, and quiet kindness. He proudly served as a Marine and answered the call of duty during Operation Desert Storm, later spending time in Somalia. His military service reflected the strength of character, discipline, and sense of responsibility that remained with him throughout his life. After his time in the military, he pursued higher education and earned a master’s degree, a milestone that reflected both his determination and his love of learning.
He went on to share his knowledge as a computer science professor, where he inspired others through his teaching and his deep understanding of technology. Darrin had a natural curiosity and a sharp mind, and he enjoyed the challenge and satisfaction of doing “computer geek” stuff. He found joy in the details, the problem-solving, and the ever-changing world of computers, which suited his talents well.
Outside of his professional life, Darrin appreciated simple pleasures and meaningful routines. He enjoyed riding bicycles, walking his dog, listening to 80s music, and reading books. These interests reflected a man who valued both activity and reflection, and who found comfort in the familiar rhythms of everyday life. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, his thoughtful nature, and the warmth he brought to the people and places around him.
Darrin was preceded in death by his parents, Harold David Sears and Barbara McKee Dampier, and her husband, Kenny Dampier. He was also preceded in death by his spouse, Michael Hunter. He is survived by his siblings, Brenda (Barry) Bullock and Randy (Pam) Sears; his step-siblings, Christine Aguirre, Kim Sears, Danny Dampier, Ronnie Dampier, and Mike Dampier; his stepdaughter, Lauren (Alex) Smith; his grandson, Uly Smith; his special friend, Martin Daly; his military friend, Cliff Wiggins; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Darrin Lane Sears will be remembered with love and respect by all who knew him. His life was one of service, learning, and enduring connection, and his memory will remain a blessing to his family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched.
