William Scott Brumley, known to family and friends as Scott, passed away on July 1, in Paris, at the age of 69.
Scott was born on July 7, 1956, in Shelbyville to the late William “Bill” Brumley and Joyce Robinson Brumley.
He lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and a warm personality that made him a friend to many.
Those who knew him will remember him as a friendly and interesting man who carried himself with quiet confidence and a genuine appreciation for the people around him.
Scott devoted much of his life to the thoroughbred horse industry, where he built a respected career as a trainer.
He retired after many years of working with horses and was known for his knowledge, dedication, and steady presence in the barn and on the farm. Throughout his career, he worked for Winstar, Hagyard, and Elk Hill farms, and he also took great pride in owning and operating his own stable, KBTR Stables.
His work reflected both his skill and his deep connection to the world of horses, which remained an important part of his life for many years.
Outside of work, Scott enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him comfort and happiness. He loved smoking cigars, drinking whiskey, and listening to blues music. He especially valued time spent with family and friends, and he found peace in fishing and caring for the animals on the farm. These interests were a reflection of the life he loved, one centered on companionship, the outdoors, and the rhythms of everyday living.
Scott is survived by his long-time companion, Lisa Jester-Brumley; his mother, Joyce Robinson Brumley; his two children, Lindsay Everman and her husband Craig Everman, and Kelsey Brumley and her significant other, Jim Crowder; his step-daughter, Ashley Czirr and her husband Zach; his grandchild, Elizabeth Everman; his three step-grandchildren, West Czirr, William Czirr, and Wyatt Czirr; his brothers, Gilbert Brumley and his wife Marilyn, and Jon Brumley and his wife Norma; his sister, Lynda Faust and her husband Doug; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Brumley, and by his grandson, Woodson Czirr.
Scott Brumley will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his lifelong connection to horses, and the easy way he made others feel welcome in his presence. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the many lives he touched throughout his years.
