Philip Douglas Smith

Philip Douglas Smith, 80, husband of Ruth Ann Gallagher Smith, died Tuesday September 12, 2023, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, KY.

He was born in Monticello, KY to the late Fletcher and Beulah Jones Smith.  He was a retired U.S. Airways customer service employee, veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Catholic Church of the Annunciation, Paris, KY, where he also served on the Knights of Columbus and sang in the choir.  Philip loved being a pilot and flying his private plane around this area, he also enjoyed fishing, gardening and farming.  Philip and Ruth Ann were also in a local band together called the Bourbon Rovers.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Jay Smith; two grandchildren, Ricky (Ashley) Smith and Shannon Smith; three great grandchildren; one sister, Louise Goff; special niece, Sofia Aparacio-Gallagher and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Beulah Smith; four brothers, Ken Smith, Johnny Smith, Curtis Smith and Donald Smith and three sisters, Maudena Orr, Pauline Burnett and Lillie Bates.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 9:00 AM Saturday September 16, 2023, at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation, 1007 Main St., Paris, KY by Father Danny Fister.  Burial to follow in the St. John’s Catholic Church Cemetery, 834 Center Ridge Rd., Demossville, KY 41033.

Visitation will be from 5:30 – 8:00 PM Friday September 15, 2023, at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY.  Rosary service will be conducted at 7:30 PM.

Pallbearers will be Al Mazetti, Ricky Smith, Jim Baber, Rich Minella, Randy Roberts and Pat Behrens.

The funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY.
