Jeffrey Allen Royce

Jeffrey Allen Royce, 57, husband of Mona Flanary-Royce, died Tuesday October 31, 2023, at the Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington, KY.

He was born in Lexington, KY to Edmond Royce, Sr., and the late Dorothy Vivian Reed Royce. Jeff was a quality manager for Xerox, an avid golfer and loved watching Sportscenter. He was a member of the 1984 Bourbon County Basketball Team that made it to the finals of the state tournament, 1000-point club member and was recently honored being voted into the Bourbon County High School Athletic Hall of Fame. This was a write up recapping the run in the tournament; Jeff Royce was Mr. Clutch in leading Bourbon County to an improbable run to the 1984 state finals. He scored the last three points in overtime to give the Colonels a 65-63 first-round win over Marshall County. He hit a 17-footer to force OT against Ballard in the quarterfinals, then hit a 16-footer as time expired to beat the Bruins 74-72. On his 18th birthday, Royce drove the length of the court and made a 10-footer with :02 left to push Bourbon County past M.C. Napier 57-56 in the semifinals. The Colonels lost to Logan County in the finals, but Royce’s week in Rupp was one to remember.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four siblings, Craig (Teresa) Jefferson, Edmond Royce, Jr., Janet (Robert) Jones and Mitchell (Donna) Royce; one aunt, Mary Bell Trent; father-in-law, Harry (Ludy) Kennard; two brother -in-laws, William (Debbie) Kennard and Brian (Autumn) Kennard and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
