James Walter Blackwell

James Walter Blackwell, of Paris, departed this life on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Harrison Memorial Hospital, having attained the age of 85 years. James was born in Bourbon County on October 12, 1938, the son of the late Oliver P. and Minerva Haggard Blackwell, a graduate of North Middletown High School, and served as a Cpl. in the United States Marines. He retired from Hinkle Contracting as a Foreman in the paving division. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching western movies and books, reading a lot, was a member of Paris Lodge #2 F&AM, and was a member of Clintonville Christian Church. One of his favorite past times was driving around and enjoying the beautiful landscape of Paris as he listened to his favorite music, Bluegrass.

Surviving is a daughter, Elizabeth Luann (Carl) Rogers; a stepdaughter, Kellie McDaniel; and a sister, Anna Jean Goins.

The funeral service for James Walter Blackwell will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Charles H. Kemp officiating. Interment will follow in Paris cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until time for the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
