Goldie Beatrice Rogers
Goldie Beatrice Rogers, widow of Elder Mark Rogers, Jr., entered eternal rest on Saturday, February 24, 2024. A native of Jackson, KY, she was the daughter of the late Candace Marks (Samuel Marks, Sr.) and the late Cecil Washington.
At a very young age, Goldie acknowledged Christ and held onto her faith until the end. She was a dedicated servant to each house of the Lord she attended. Her ministry was in the culinary department, and she loved to feed the people of God. Her specialty was caramel cake, which was in high demand.
On November 28, 1970, Goldie married the love of her life. Elder Mark Rogers, Jr., was a dedicated man of God, and because of that, he was able to love his wife as Christ loved the church. He did all that he could to make sure she was queen of their home. They were blessed to be fruitful and were given two daughters to be in charge of whom they raised in the nurture and admiration of the Lord.
Goldie spent many years in the work force from Clark Equipment, Turf Catering, and the Lexington Housing Authority. But her most valued “job” was being a grandmother. “Granny Go Go,” as she was called, would do all that she could to love and spoil each of her babies. Her love was endless.
In addition to her parents and husband, Goldie was preceded in death by her firstborn daughter, LaVonne C. Rogers; brother, Samuel D. Marks, Jr.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Having finished her course, Goldie leaves to cherish her memory: her youngest daughter, Tara Gentry (Eric); sister, Regina Marks; grandchildren, Elan, Niyaune, and Traevon Gentry; great- grandson, DaKari Harris; nephews, Rico Marks (Melissa) and Terence Marks (Carmen) and their children; aunts, Bonnie Jones (Douglas), Shirley Howard, and Maudie Higgins (Herman); brother- in-law, Marion P. Rogers; special granddaughters, Sierra Johnson and Jonniece Edmonds and their children; special sons and daughters, Ray and Terri Speller, Penny Hooper, and Donzetta Ashford and Gene and Velta Jones, Jr.; special brothers and sisters, Judy Jones, Elder William and Deborah Garr, and Stacy Sheeler; and a host of other family and friends.
