William James “Jamie” Barr III

William James “Jamie” Barr III, husband of Frances Faison Isaacs Barr of Paris, departed this life on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Bourbon Community Hospital, at the age of 75 years. Jamie was born in Paris, Kentucky on February 12, 1949, the son of the late William James “W.J.” and Carolyn Mae West Barr, a 1967 graduate of Paris High School where he was a three-letter sportsman and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a general contractor and co-owner of Barr Construction having built seventeen Druthers Restaurants across Kentucky; several Pizza Huts; founder of Mesa Grill restaurants; owner of the Blue Marlin Seafood in Savannah, Georgia; owned Parrish Clothing Store in Lexington; was a member of the Boy Scouts of America having won the God and Country Award; a member of the Kappa Alpha Order; had a real estate development in South Carolina; loved to travel; was quite the historian; an animal lover; and attended Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Neal Barr.
Along with his wife Frances, he is survived by one daughter, Emma Caroline Barr; a stepdaughter, Samantha Whitehead; two brothers and their wives, Cary (Elizabeth) Barr, and Robert Hanson Barr. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
The family would like to express special appreciation to the staff at Ingram Cancer Institute at Vanderbilt, especially Dr. Vicky Keedy, and Dr. Amy Schell at Baptist Health in Lexington, Kentucky.
The funeral service for William James “Jamie” Barr, III will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Paris Cemetery with Rob Barr officiating. Interment immediately to follow with casket bearers being Dave Fair, Bill Barr, Daniel Barr, Glen Culbertson, Ben Dycus, Phil Owens, Ben Basone, and David Lykins. Honorary bearers are Dowell Harper, Dewayne Napier, Marcus Lake, Chad Davis, Mike Mullins, Jeff Hood, Hunter Isaacs, Dr. Jeff McGregor, Jake Bishop, and Darrin Taylor. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, September 24, 2024, at the Barr House, 1200 Cypress Street, Paris, Kentucky from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
